Measuring Guide

A few minutes with a tape measure is all it takes. Use a steel tape, measure in centimetres, and measure each window on its own, even windows that look the same. Fit your pole or track first, then measure it, not the glass.

1. Fit the pole or track

Hang it 10–15 cm above the window frame (higher makes the window look taller) and 15–20 cm past each side, so the curtains open clear of the glass. No pole yet? Add 40 cm to the window's width.

2. Measure the width

Measure the pole between its decorative ends, or the track from end to end.

3. Choose your pairs

Each panel is 135 cm wide and 270 cm long, flat. One pair suits a pole or track of 140–200 cm:

  • 140–180 cm: one pair, with full, soft folds.
  • 181–200 cm: one pair, hanging flatter to show more of the print.
  • 201–400 cm: two pairs.
  • 401–600 cm: three pairs.

4. Measure the drop

Measure from the heading's point down to where you want the curtain to end, at the left, middle and right, and use the shortest:

  • Grommet: from the top of the pole. Our rings fit poles up to 28 mm thick.
  • Pencil pleat: from the top of the track, or from the eye at the bottom of a pole ring.
  • Rod pocket: from the top of the rod.

Then choose where it ends:

  • To the floor: take off 1 cm.
  • Just touching the floor: add 2–5 cm; it hides an uneven floor.
  • To the sill: stop 1 cm above it.
  • Below the sill: about 15 cm below it.

5. Check against our 270 cm

Our standard panels are 270 cm long. Shorter or longer? We make curtains to your size and print each design to your length. A local tailor can take up the hem of an all-over design by up to 20 cm, but gradient, border and placed designs should be made to measure.

Special windows

  • Bay windows: use a bay track or bay pole with pencil pleat; measure each section and add them up.
  • Corner windows: measure each wall's pole on its own.
  • Balcony and sliding doors: run the pole far enough past the doorway that open curtains clear it.
  • Inward-opening windows: hang the pole higher and further off the wall so the window opens freely.
  • Windows in a recess: measure the width at the top, middle and bottom, and use the smallest.
  • An AC unit above the window: keep the curtains clear of its air vents.
  • Gypsum ceiling pockets: measure from the top of the track to the floor; pencil pleat, pinch pleat and wave suit ceiling tracks.
  • One side only: order one pair and open both panels to the same side.

Made to measure

We make every heading to measure (grommet, pencil pleat, rod pocket, pinch pleat and wave) in any length. Send us the width of your pole or track, the drop, the heading, the fabric, the design name, the number of windows and a photo of each window with the tape in view; we check your measurements on WhatsApp before we cut.
